During the 90s and mid-2000s, movie producer David Dhawan engraved a name for himself in the comedy genre after giving hits like Judwa, Hero No.1, Coolie No.1, Bade MiyanChoteMiyan, MujhseShaadiKarogi, and numerous others. As of late, David remade two of his legendary movies from the 90s- Judwaa and Coolie No.1 in which his son is featured as a lead actor. Presently, there are rumours that the producer is intending to remake another legendary movie Biwi No. 1. In an exclusive discussion, David Dhawan talks about the remake of Biwi No. 1.
When questioned as to whether he has any plans on remaking the Salman Khan starrer, David Dhawan said, “It is there in my mind, but not at the moment. It is too early to say anything. I need a little rest now. These kids are doing their job now and my wife needs me more than anyone for some time. Maybe I’ll come up with something original. I have already worked for a lot of years. So, time will say what is in store for me in the future. Let’s see how it shapes especially after theatres reopen. India is filled with entertainment. You can do anything. I would like to make a fresh film now. Maybe a small film. Let’s see.”
The movie was released in 1999 and featured Salman Khan, Karishma Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Sushmita Sen, and Tabu. The comedy-drama movie was produced by VashuBhagnani.
Also, Varun Dhawan had said recently that reproducing the classic movie Coolie No. 1 was a dreamlike experience, adding that he needed to make a film that would amuse the entire family. “The experience of recreating a classic film that I grew up watching has been surreal, and it is humbling to receive so much love and appreciation from viewers. In a year like 2020, we wanted to bring smiles to the audiences’ faces with a story that would entertain the entire family,” Varun said.
On a similar note, during the promotion of Coolie No.1 featuring Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan, David Dhawan had told that how he came up with the idea of remaking the movie and said, “Initially the thought of a remake never occurred to me. But I wanted to make something with Varun and then suddenly thought of Coolie No. 1.“
