The trailer of the much-awaited film Tandav has been released and it has some giveaway signs that it is going to be a political drama. The film has Saif Ali Khan as the lead character Samar Pratap Singh who seems like a present world Chanakya clad in a khadi outfit.
The lead character has the ambitions of conquering power as its main agenda. Apart from our dashing Saif Ali Khan, the film also boasts of a stellar star cast with the likes of Dimple Kapadia, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub and Sunil Grover also playing important roles. The opening sequence of the trailer shows our hero trying to claim the Prime Minister’s chair with support (or possible betrayal) from corrupt leaders who have the lust for power.
The trailer also has characters, which possibly seem to be inspired from the cult political classic House of Cards. Although the film has been claimed as a political drama with no resemblance to real life, there seems to be some inspirations from real life incidents like the ongoing farmers’ protests.
Dimple Kapadia seems to be playing a prominent role in the film and her scene with Saif Ali Khan indicates that series might be a family political feud combined with matters of national importance. The introductory scene of Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub might remind you of JNU protests with the chants “Azaadi”, which blew out into national proportion. The hero’s character is shown to be based out of Delhi, whereas Ayub’s character is shown to be focused around college, thus giving us hope that the film might shed some light on college politics, which is going around currently.
A dialogue at the end of the trailer might suggest the current trend of politics in India where the power may shift between the two national parties before anyone notices it. This film comes from Ali Abbas Zafar who has given us films like Tiger Zinda Hai, Sultan and Bharat. This is his first array into digital cinema and he has tried to experiment in an area that hasn’t been used in a wide scale in Bollywood cinema.
The film also has Sarah Jane Dias and Kritika Kamra in important roles. This film will be released on Amazon prime OTT platform and start streaming from January 15. The trailer of Taandav promises to be a great feast for fans of Saif Ali Khan and political drama lovers.
