Shakuntala Devi’s New Song Is a Testament to Mother-Daughter Relationships


A brand-new song from the movie Shakuntala Devi, calledPaheli, is out now. The song is an expression o fthe Math genius Shakuntala Devi’s bond with her daughter Anupama Banerji, played by Sanya Malhotra. In the music video, Shakuntala is seen assuring her husband Paritosh Banerji, essayed by Jisshu Sengupta that she will stand as the best mother. She is then seen indefatigably working to create a lovely home for her daughter. While the trailer gave us an understanding of the intricate yet precious bond, the new song Paheli summarizes their relationship flawlessly.

Vidya put up the video of the song on her Instagram handle and wrote, “Solving the #Paheli of this beautiful yet complicated relationship is not so easy! Here’s a beautiful song instead. Meet #ShakuntalaDeviOnPrime July 31, on @primevideoin (sic).”

Fans can barely contain patience for the biopic of Shakuntala Devi for apparent reasons,but most importantly, it is because it features critically acclaimed Bollywood star Vidya Balan. And interestingly, she is supported by a bunch of outstanding and resourceful co-stars such as Sanya Malhotra, Amit Sadh and Jisshu Sengupta.

From cycling in the fields and making cupcakes to bickering over math, the song that has beenlent voice by the mellifluous Shreya Ghosal stands up to the anticipations in portraying every mother-daughter duo in the world. While the lyrics are created by Priya Saraiya, the words have gotten a deeper meaning with the soulful composition of Sachin – Jigar.

The Anu Menon directorial drama biopic offers a glimpseinto the various events in the life of Shakuntala Devi, whose potential to give a solution to complex mathematical problems fast, made her popular as the “human computer”.

The film is ready to premiere online on the video streaming site Amazon Prime Video on July 31.
