Recently, the acclaimed Bollywood actress Vidya Balan took to Twitter to make an announcement. The announcement was made regarding her new film, Shakuntala Devi, on Amazon Prime Video. The tweet said, she is pleased to announce that Shakuntala Devi will be soon on the Prime Video platform. She also said that she was thrilled to be able to entertain people in such unprecedented times.
However, Amazon still hasn’t announced the digital release date of the movie. The film has been written and directed by Anu Menon, and is based on the life of the famous mathematician Shakuntala Devi. She was nicknamed as the “human computer,” and her talent earned her a spot in the Guinness book of world records in the year 1982. She also wrote the book “The World of Homosexuals,” which is regarded as the first study on homosexuals in India.
In addition to Vidya, the film boasts of a multitude of talented actors like Sanya Malhotra, Amit Sadh, and Jisshu Sengupta in significant roles.
Balan is very excited to play the role of Shakuntala Devi. She said that Shakuntala Devi was someone who truly embraced her individuality, had a strong feminist voice, and withstood a lot of naysayers to reach the zenith of success. The actress further added that she was fascinated by this woman as you don’t normally associate a fun person with Mathematics, but Shakuntala Devi completely turns that perception on its head.
Just a day ago, the digital release of the movie GulaboSitabo was announced. It is unusual for a movie marked for theatrical release to be released on digital platforms. However, in the times of corona crisis, it seems like a logical solution.
